The next wave of countries included in the WarnerMedia company’s expansion is Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania, Portugal, Poland, North Macedonia, Netherlands, Montenegro, Moldova, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Bosnia / Herzegovina.
HBO Max Europe Availability
That will bring the total number to 61 countries or territories across Europe and the Americas for the streaming company. Later in 2022, HBO Max will add six more European countries, including Greece and Turkey.
HBO Max Europe expansion plans include its availability on multiple devices as well as selected local TV partners.
Last week, the company’s Q4 2021 results were bright, beating its projections to reach 73.8 million global subscribers for HBO and HBO Max. That means a total of 13 million were added in 2021, including almost 8 million subscribers outside the U.S., despite the decision to remove HBO max from Amazon Prime Channels in mid-September.
The American streaming service, which is owned by AT&T Inc, broke into the European market in October by launching in the Nordics and Spain with various promotional offers to attract customers from Netflix Inc and Walt Disney Co’s Disney+. However, due to an existing deal with Sky, HBO Max won’t be available in the UK, Germany and Italy for the next few years.
HBO Max Plans For Asia?
HBO Max has indicated it wants to expand into 190 countries by 2026 but has not announced any plans for Asia yet. Johannes Larcher, the head of HBO Max International, said they were working hard to prepare for a potential launch in Asia, but it was fair to expect that “Southeast Asia” would likely be the first market in the Asian continent that HBO Max would expand.
